Materials and care

1. Cleaning
  • Brush Off Dirt: Use a dry brush or cloth to remove loose dirt and mud
  • Spot Clean: Wipe down with a damp sponge and cold water; avoid hot water and soap. 
  • Air Dry: Let it dry completely in a well-ventilated area, away from direct heat. 
  • 2. Re-waxing (Reproofing)
  • Check if Needed:
    Spray cold water; if it soaks in (instead of beading), it's time to re-wax. 
    Soften Wax:
  • Place your tin of wax dressing (like Barbour Thornproof) in a bowl of hot water to soften it. 
    Apply Wax:
  • Use a cloth or sponge to rub the melted wax evenly into the fabric, focusing on seams, creases, and dry areas. Keep the tin warm. 
    Avoid Areas:
  • Don't get wax on the corduroy collar, inside pockets, or lining. 
    Dry & Set:
  • Hang the jacket and let it air dry in a warm, dry place for about 24 hours for the wax to set. 
    Key Things to Remember
  • No Washing Machine: This will strip the wax permanently. 
    Gentle Heat: Use low heat (like a hairdryer) to remove marks, but avoid ironing or high heat. 
  • Regularity: Re-wax annually or as needed to maintain water repellency.
